Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing is the Founder and President of Malaysia Design Innovation Centre. He also founded and helms Limkokwing University College of Creative Technology, of which MDI is its professional arm. This linkage that focuses on creativity and innovation introduces the concept of industry within university. It is the first of its kind in the country and redefines the way young people should be trained for the 21st century.

Tan Sri Lim had the vision to see a need where none had existed and the passion to do something that had never been done before. He also had the tenacity to work at changing mindsets, to keep pushing forward to translate that idea into reality.

In the process, he changed priorities and perceptions of education in Malaysia, fusing academic excellence with the highly creative and innovative in industry. His philosophy is about producing versatile, intellectually and technically skillful, industry-ready and highly motivated people to take on the competition and thrive in the rapidly changing world.

He wanted his students to graduate with qualifications that will take them anywhere in the world and he achieved it through networking with some of the universities best known for their specialisation. He also wanted his students to learn the way of industry while they study, and he achieved it through establishing MDI that brings industry onto campus.

Students from his university are already contributing their knowledge and skills to strengthening the economy. They fulfill his dream of giving the nation a solid base of human capital driven by creativity and motivated by innovation.
